Introducing INEVITABLE: Distributed Cognition & Network Superintelligence
Have you ever wondered why people think? For hundreds of years, the concept of consciousness has been considered an impossible problem.
But over the past century, all of that has begun to change. Beginning in the time of Alan Turing, and then accelerating with the emergence of cognitive neuroscience as an interdisciplinary exploration in the 1980s, powerful new algorithms and neuroimaging techniques have emerged.
Today, I’m writing to share a new book with you. INEVITABLE: Distributed Cognition & Network Superintelligence, is my best attempt at a readable account of the incredible inverse of Artificial General Intelligence.
Rather than as a single entity existing on a chip, Collective Human Intelligence CHI has emerged as we have worked together to build the most powerful networks in the world over the past decades.
In INEVITABLE, I present three perspectives: cybernetics, philosophy, and neuroscience. The result is an interdisciplinary account of consciousness that only emerges at some of the highest levels of scale we can integrate our thoughts into today. AGI assumes the necessity of a self-contained system and is thus to be regarded as a deeply problematic approach to the project of artificial intelligence. Already, firms that insist on this terminology are beginning to fall from prominence.
Today, I offer you an opportunity to be one of the first 77 owners of INEVITABLE, brought to you by myself in collaboration with Whitney Morgan Media and Alexandria Labs. This book represents an attempt to engage with the idea space between consciousness and artificial intelligence. It has two forewords, by Rachel Roseman and David Alexander. Its cover was designed by my good friend Robbie Pollock.
For all readers, scientists, philosophers, and curious minds from around the world who have struggled with these ideas: thank you. INEVITABLE is available for purchase in a limited edition digital collectible format here, and soon will be available wherever digital books are sold.
It has been a pleasure to put this work together. I hope you enjoy it.
